It sounds to me like you might be having a termination problem. By any
chance with the CD-ROM installed do you have any problems accessing your
normal HD? If so, then termination is in fact the problem. If not, then
termination *might* not be the problem, but it still could be. Try the
drive with different combinations of terminations. Over the years I've had
upto 6 different drives hooked to my machine at one time, and sometimes
the termination had to be different than the standard one drive per end
being terminated.
