It isn't only the users of the programs, it's also the authors. I've sent
money orders to Europe and for only half of them did I ever receive notice
confirming they got it, thanks or even an upgrade to the program.
Granted, it was usually only $10 or $15 USD but in Canada it's a pain
because I have to buy US money then buy the money order and then the
postage. Some shareware authors are great to deal with but others can't
even be bothered to drop a postcard in the mail. So, why should I? I'm
not asking to be praised, just acknowledged.
So now, I only support North American developers. Services like CIS and
being able to upgrade online is great but otherwise it isn't worth it to
me unless I can *easily* contact the author and preferably pay by cheque.
