John, >>> was concerned about reports of its less than industrial construction <<< Compaired to What? For Starters I just had a download of a previous thread wherein BCD (you might have heard of them) ran 80,000 frames through the unit flawlessly. Before you say they have an axe to grind I will admit that it is their controller that is packaged in that unit…..why do you think they wanted to see if they could make the unit fail? It's their reputation riding on this product also….so they tested this unit long and hard before they committed to it. >>> People who bought this deck as their 1st machine are giving it great reports, and people from the video industry are giving it reviews ranging from good output/not going to last to poor output/not going to last. <<< Now why do you suppose this is? <BG> could it be that people who are purchasing it as their 1st deck are happy because it does perform as advertised. and….just possibly…. people who are panning it have a particular axe to grind A: Like they may sell Higher Priced Machines. Or take ADVERTISING from people who do….I've been in this business 20 years..do you really think ALR got ALL those Great reviews because they had that good of a machine? Before you answer….I was an ALR dealer for 3 years. B: Then there's the type of person who goes for a test ride in a Prosche and says their Lexus lacks precision when they get back behind the wheel…..we all get jaded in this business. I never said this deck was as good as a BetaSP… then It's not a $35,000. dollar deck…nor is it a $7,000. dollar "PRICED" deck….which is what it was meant to replace. Clearly given the choice of the Pannasonic AG-7750 Plus adding all the extras that come with the Sanyo deck proves the Sanyo deck a better value…..even if it lasted half as long….which I think the Jury is still gonna be out on for quite a while on. I see this as an Entry Level Machine for people who will need in-house Industrial Output and a Machine for putting a representation for a client that will need to use the Exabyte/ABAKAS solution. I'd even be willing to bet I could output on my GVR-S950 a master tape to go to my buddy with the BetaSP have him Bump it up on the BetaSP and You would have a Damn hard time seeing ANY difference. A Normal Client would see NO difference. Not everbody has "Engineers Eye"<G R & D> >>> I needed a VTR before the Sanyo was shipped <<< I'm curious John…what _did_ you buy….I hope it wasn't Hi8 because if you think you wouldn't have liked the Sanyo SVHS you sure as hell ain't gonna like all the Animation dropouts on the Hi8 deck. <g> This has been fun…we'll have to do it again.<g> It gives me a chance to Air my Humble opinion. <RBG> James M.
