Alan, I'm a bit confused by your description. When your EGS spectrum is installed, it shouldn't be dispalying anything but its initial boot screen which shouldn't be displayed for more than 10 seconds. When you run the configuration programs, have you tested different screen modes successfully? What EGS programs have you tried? Have you disabled PD software that runs in the background on startup of your machine (you MIGHT have some problem with other programs interacting with EGS' software)? I assume that you have set your monitor to NEC.monitor (Gary will probably be able to check whether the generic NEC monitor works with your 4FG. Are there any monitor controls that can spread out your EGS screen? You MIGHT need to tweak the monitor spec settings, but low screen depths SHOULD be do-able.
