The image came from PhotoStyler where it works fine but I discovered the
problem. The file is not 32 bit, its 16. It's a grayscale picture with alpha. I
converted it to 32 and it works fine in 3ds.

Glad you were able to get it to work. TIFFs are funny things. I use them a
lot because the file compression scheme is more compact than TGA, but you do
have to watch out for incompatibilities.
