As you know, I was considering the IBM Ultrastar 4.51 Gig drive (model 94G3196)
for the PVR system because it is suppose to have a sustained transfer rate of
5.5 – 7.4 MB/Sec. (according to IBM). However, DPS told me today that they
have tested this drive at their Ontario, Kentucky and U. K. offices and it does
not meet the speed requirements necessary for the PVR. The 5.31 Gig IBM
Ultrastar (model 94G3787) has a sustained transfer rate of 4.4 – 7.6 MB/Sec. so
I presume it wouldn't be any more suitable. It would seem that the Seagate 4.3
Gig Barracuda is about the best choice for the moment.
As you know, I'm looking to immediately buy a single or preferably dual Pentium
motherboard that has 5 – 7 PCI slots for my PVR. If you or anyone else has a
brand, model and phone number of where I can purchase this motherboard or
entire computer with this many PCI slots, please let me know right away. In
case you were wondering why the need for so many PCI slots: PVR card, 2 Matrox
Millennium graphics cards for virtual screens, Fast SCSI2 controller and one
slot for the "Video 4 Audio" card when it comes out the first quarter of 1996.
