#IBM hard drives for PVR

George As you know, I was considering the IBM Ultrastar 4.51 Gig drive (model 94G3196) for the PVR system because it is suppose to have a sustained transfer rate of 5.5 – 7.4 MB/Sec. (according to IBM). However, DPS told me today that they have tested this drive at their Ontario, Kentucky and U. K. offices and it does not meet the speed requirements necessary for the PVR. The 5.31 Gig IBM Ultrastar (model 94G3787) has a sustained transfer rate of 4.4 – 7.6 MB/Sec. so I presume it wouldn't be any more suitable. It would seem that the Seagate 4.3 Gig Barracuda is about the best choice for the moment. As you know, I'm looking to immediately buy a single or preferably dual Pentium motherboard that has 5 – 7 PCI slots for my PVR. If you or anyone else has a brand, model and phone number of where I can purchase this motherboard or entire computer with this many PCI slots, please let me know right away. In case you were wondering why the need for so many PCI slots: PVR card, 2 Matrox Millennium graphics cards for virtual screens, Fast SCSI2 controller and one slot for the "Video 4 Audio" card when it comes out the first quarter of 1996. Hello again Doug, From the time of your messager posting, it doesn't look like you got the fax I sent you last night about 7pm. Unless there are some other reasons that you would like to use two Millenium PCI cards, there are single ISA cards that will do the dual screen thing, like the Colorgraphic, very well. We have used that card every day for the last six months and it's great. NT drivers? Good question, we're running WFWG, I'll check with them today and let you know. What this would do is get you back into more "mainstream" notherboards with 3-4 PCI slots, increase your selection and possible lower the cost and technical "hairiness" of the solution. I believe in trying new, unproven things in a system one at a time. Your difficulty factor goes up exponentially as you combine them. Thanks for alerting me to the Bit3 info. They are on my list for today also. -George Plhak
