Speaking from vast personal experience, almost any recent, large (>1GB) SCSI disk will work on the outside (fast) part of the drive. It is when the drive begins to get full and the slower inner portion is used that problems will occur. Also, when editing (performing many seeks) the sustained drive throughput goes down, requiring higher than normal transfer rates from the disks. While I know the pepole at NewTek want you to be able to get drives cheaply from nearly any source, they are also trying to push the minimum allowable sustained rate from the disk as high as possible (this rate will only go up in the future, and more data = better video). Also at this point in time, there are several subtle paramaters such as cache control and thermal recalibration timing that very among the same manufacturer due to different versions of firmware. My recomendation would be to use the recommended drives at first, unless there is a VERY good reason not to. Charles Steinkuehler
