Meteor crater consists of, _after_ you buy your tickets to enter the complex:
A small museum, really the best thing about it – some metors, some fragments
from the site;
A gift shop containing various and sundry t-shirts and suchlike consumer trash
having little or nothing to do with the site beyond such esoterica as "I wuz
there";
A walk made of cement and steel out into the crater (about 4 feet into it),
with insert-a-coin telescopes for you to take a few metered moments to try and
see detail a zillion yards away. You couldn't go into the crater at all, and
those telescopes didn't do replacement duty for being there.
My fondest memory of the site was meeting a cat outside and having a petting
session for about ten minutes. I remember remarking to my wife that "it wasn't
a total loss" because of that animal. I was exaggerating, but I was pretty
annoyed.
The view from the concrete walk was amazing – that's one darned big hole.
