Re: shaped lights.
I was suggesting you use a mask to shine the light through. The light would
basically shine through a hole in the geometry. To do this create a
rectangle in the 2d shaper and then another inside it which is the shape of
the light you want. Assign both shapes and loft them as a thin object.
Place this object between the spotlight and it's target – voila! the light
is blocked except where the rectangular hole is located. Remember that
shadows must be on and the analogy here is that you are masking the light.
Please experiment and let me know if you get the desired effect.
