I run OnNet on the majority of my PC's. It's by far more flexible. The only
oddity was that I could not get the [normal] pcnfsd located in the Sun server
to authenticate those machines when attempting to mount drives on the SGI.
I have never used the SGI as a server. I have two central servers and that's
where everybody points to (including the Indigo2). When I installed 3D Studio
and had my ~/3ds4 exported, the machines running PCNFS had no problem mounting
it. The machines running OnNet, however, complained they could not get
authenticated. I then installed pcnfsd on the SGI and everything went smoothly.
No, I did not see any locking problems. At least no one complained about. All
renderings went fine and worked as described. I'm just waiting for the Video
Post rendering to work as that's all I do.
Note that I'm not an "animator" per se. I run the most convoluted and diverse
network possible. There are at least 9 different platforms running different
OS'es all connected to this rat's nest I call network. It's actually pretty
amazing everything works at all.
