sales are to individuals. A big percentage of MSDOS/Windows sales are to corporations. Judging by the large numbers of ersatz software manuals we sell at the bookstore where I work, I suspect lots of clone machine owners are stealing their software from work or getting it from friends who stole it from work. (I should also add that more books are stolen from our computers section than from any other.) Maybe if the software were less expensive more people would acquire it legitimately…but at any rate I don't think the higher prices necessarily reflect the reality of the marketplace. Also, it's not only market forces that determine software prices; the "prestige factor" also plays a part. I don't think the Amiga market is big enough for prestige to mean much. These days I see some pretty expensive video packages on my dealer's shelves…somebody obviously believes they can charge big bucks for these products and get away with it. 8^) Hmmm…maybe we _are_ seeing the prestige factor coming into play…or perhaps Amiga owners are just willing to pay for software that makes use of the machine's strengths. -Dave (via AutoPilot)
