Andy: Assuming you have a 386 and an INTEL mathco-, try opening up the machine, and making sure you're grounded (touch the metal of the machine &/or a water-pipe — we all DO have water pipes next to our machines, don't we?) press down on the math-co with your thumb to make wure it's well-seated — sometimes chips work themselves up and partially out of their sockets because of expansion and contraction due to heating and cooling.
