#Gateway & 3ds
I have a Gateway 486/66. I was running 3ds quite happily on this
computer with 16 megs of ram. I decided I needed a little more ram,
so I added another 8 megs. After I did this my machine continued to
register only 16 megs at the boot up. I called Gateway and they
directed me disable bios shadowing. I did and my machine obediently
showed all my ram. However, with the shadowing disabled, I started
having problems in 3ds. Whenever I changed screen resolutions (like
going into the materials editor) the screen would flash and roll for
about ten seconds before locking into the new resolution. I enabled
shadowing and this problem goes away. I called Gateway support and
asked for help. They had me try a few things, none of which helped,
and then told me that it was a conflict between the bios and 3ds. At
first they said 3ds must not allow you to use more than 16 megs of
ram, and of course I explained to them how wrong they were. They said
the conflict was happening in the F000 area, and said that I should
ask you guys if you know any work around. Frankly, it seems like it's
a bug with THEIR system, but if you could give me your thoughts on
the matter, I'd appereciate it.
