Aaron,
I don't see what is so creative about shading with a pencil. Imaging
the scene is creative, but I think realizing it is purely technical,
no matter if the medium is traditional or computer.
I don't need to learn how to mix colors. I can work fine with RGB and HSV.
What I do need to learn is what colors look appropriate and what sort of
colors, lighting, shadows, etc one should use to set a particular mood, etc.
I cannot stand to work in any medium in which changes are not easily
made during the realization phase. I gave up on pencils when I
started erasing holes in the paper.
