>>How in H*ll did they keep the originals and only give copies to
owners?<<
Shh! Don't tell them <g>!
>>Fear that they expected that of me was eased when he pointed out
that getting the point across in projects this large was a layered
process where I fit somewhere in the middle.<<
Computer artist's have an advantage right now in that their work is
new. It's allowing some images to be used because of their novelty,
and I think we've all seen some sub-standard images being used only
because they are <cue the trumpets> COMPUTER RENDERINGS. This
situation is fading fast but it is giving us an oppertunity to
experiment and find what kind of use the computer can be put to.
In my own work here, some of my first images were a little lame (one
partner kept calling him my "cartoons") but because we persevered
we've been able to improve. Now, I feel comfortable with my skill
levels and what I can do and in some presentations, the computer work
does completely replace natural renderings, but not all. On any
project we discuss whether or not it's appropriate to use 3D here or
not and I try to be honest and tell them when I think their needs are
better served by other media. But every project, we try to push the
boundries a little further. By the time the novelty wears off, it's
our job to be producing renderings that we don't have to put the word
"computer" in front of for people to appreciate them.
