Philip I have a friend who works at Industrial Light & Magic he is their senior animator and he told me this: They use Alias for modelling, apparently they have the very best modelling capabilities around. For movement and animations they use SoftImage it doesn't get any better for SoftImage for movement. For rendering they use Renderman. All of the dinasaurs on 'Jurassic Park' and the effects on 'The Mask' were created with Alias and SoftImage. I am presently taking an animation course here in Toronto using Alias and I also work in the Graphics Arts on an SGI. I have seen many demos of both products. I think that if you can't find what you are looking for in either of these packges you are in trouble. One thought though, you could check out one other program that, besides Alias is also from Toronto, it is called 'Prisms' and apparently it is more difficult to use, but will allow a lot of scripting and is very open. It also runs on an SGI and is priced accordinly.
