Thanks for the informative reply. I feel that Imagine may be the most full
featured of the bunch, but I still think that the user interface leaves
something to be desired. I especially hate the attributes dialog box (in 2.0 at
least, if you uncheck one of the parameters it does not remove the attribute
from the rendering – it just disables the editing of it- or am I missing
something? — Also hate the RGB control of things like bump maps and hardness,
which is very counterintuative). Hitting enter after everything drives me nuts.
Also have to use a boot disk to load this program, which is a drag. There is
also not a icon in sight. Being DOS based, I'm also concerned about future
compatibility with Windows 4.0. The 2.0 program that I have also did not work
correctly for a variety of functions (at least not the way they were described
in the 3D modeling lab book that accompanied it). But the action editor's
little colored boxes may be the worst part of the interface. Eeeaak….
However, feature for feature, it definately appears to be at the top of it's
class for most things (especially in a side by side comparison like in this
month's Multimedia magazine).
One final point, do you have any comments on the disadvantages of purely spline
based modeling of programs like Animation Master? Can Imagine also model using
spline instead of polygons?
Any comments on the above would be appreciated.
Regards,
Tony
