For some reason, this reminds me of the Aimga users who hoped to run more than one copy of their favorite 3D program at a time. (I realize that's different than multi-threading in a technical sense.) They try it, don't like the performance degradation, and go back to running one copy per computer. And the Amiga was pretty good at load balancing, and much better at handling interrupts like mouse movement.
