Larry, This will not work. You stand a chance of frying something at worst, and of not having it work at best. The reason there are RS232 adapters available for the 64 is because the 64 has only a user port operating at a voltage range between 0 and +5V. The adapter is to convert the signals to RS232 levels, which range between +12V and -12V. Putting -12 onto an output pin of the user port is not healthy for the silicon on eiether end of the wire.
