Steve, I'm not the MVS Sysprog, so I don't set the IPS profiles. It was a
management decision for the "sub second" business as they wanted what they
thought was productivity. We are currently exapanding our programming staff to
about 700 people.
We will never go VM. All our data centers (and there's quite a few) run
MVS/XA. We need batch as well as CICS for production. One of the considerations
of using MVS is that the TSO environment for testing will be the same as the
batch environment. (I mean control blocks and such) Developing code under VM
and running it under MVS (batch) is a problem as I recall. Up until this year
we were a 100% assembler shop (yes, applications too). Suddenly, managment
discovered COBOL and 4GL's. Our PC Application programmers will use either C
(yay!) or COBOL (bleah). (Of course as a PC SysProg I can use C or assembler as
I see fit – my S/370 and Series/1 background is also assembler)
Hey, it works for us!
