Andrew, Hi-8 takes the same Y/C input as SVHS. It uses the same "color-under" recording technology as SVHS, although the color subcarrier is recorded at a slightly higher frequency than on SVHS (this makes NO difference to inputs and outputs, only to how the signal is encoded on the tape). While this theoretically should mean that the chrominance resolution would be higher in Hi-8 than SVHS, because more signal is being put on less tape it is VERY prone to dropouts, and I don't think the S/N is quite as good, either. But as to your basic question — yes, both formats use the same input and output signals. Pete
