Hehe. I;ve been a professional video engineer for over ten years, so
I'm not exactly naive. You are comparing apples and oranges. I simply was
talking about the quality of the encoded signal.
The stability of the genlock is another matter, which becomes important
when overlaying on external video. In order to overlay onto a home VCR,
you need a "loose lock". However, in a pro application, a proc amp, a
video switcher, or any number of other devices will stabilize the signal. I
did a game show where all the graphics (and sounds) are generated by an
Amiga 1000 with a 1300 genlock. Got it broadcast quality without much
trouble, by using an external encoder.
I too have heard a lot of enginners complain about the "stability" of the
genlock. If they think 3/4" or S-VHS is any more stable they live in a
dreamworld. —Mike
