I use a Deskjet and am pleased with it's performance. It produces high quality output from PPage, PageStream, FinalCopy, and ProWrite through a postscript interpreter (SaxonScript). The Deskjet will produce output equivalent in quality to a laserjet, although the lasers are better because inkjet technology on lower cost printers uses a liquid ink which slightly wicks through the paper fibers before it dries. A laser won't do that, so printed output will be sharper. If you qualify for educational purchasing you can buy a Deskjet for around $370 new. The cheapest HP laser is $770 on educational purchase. If you do buy a laser, I'd suggest you get one that can use a postscript cartridge because that will provide the quickest and best postscript results. With a Deskjet the best you can do is to use a postscript interpreter or buy DJHelper and use downloadable fonts.
