The $1,999 was a 20mhz 486SX, yes. But the same ad lists a 33mhz 486DX
with 100meg HD, 15" ultrascan monitor (super VGA), two floppies, and 4meg
ram for $2,999. That is no slouch machine in my book.
I'm still a die-hard Amiga convert. Frankly it just comes down to being
comfortable with the machine, and what I can do on it. It 'fits' me very
well. So to some degree I'm likely to stick with it for years, despite
prices. I'm likely to get an A3000 w/040 next year, for instance. The
prices bug me, but that's the price I pay for getting the 'Amiga' benefits.
It's not folks like me Commodore needs to convice to buy, though. It's all
those others who currently only consider PC's and Macs…. and given the
price/performance barrier, and their marketing savvy, I really don't expect
it to happen. Sigh.
