Carl,
I have only had the Premiera about two months so my experience is not
extensive. I am not doing dye sublimation printing on the Amiga because
(as far as I know) the dye sublimation driver for the Amiga is not yet
available, although the author of the driver (who is on CIS) says that it
will be ready "real soon now". I understand Fargo has a BBS on CIS but I
have not been able to locate what forum it is in. Let me know if you find
Fargo on CIS. I have made about 15 dye sublimation prints using Windows
3.1 on a 486 DX2 PC to drive the Primera. The results, especially prints
made from Kodak Photo CD's are absolutely spectacular. Only when you hold
the prints up close and see the dot structure do you know they are not
photographs.
On the Amiga I have used the Primera with D Paint IV, Final Copy II,
AdPro, and to print files (monochrome) from Dir Opus. I have printed
several graphics with DPaint IV in the thermal wax mode and the results
are very good indeed (in all cases I have used the 4-color ribbon for
thermal wax printing). Incidentally, I do find that it really pays to use
Fargo's premium grade of paper (hard finish and high gloss). When I use
regular copy paper the results are mediocre –even for monochrome on text.
I have some of Fargo's regular grade of paper but have yet to try it.
I plan to keep urging Fargo to hurry up and release the driver for the dye
sublimation mode for the Amiga. I'd appreciate it if you would do the
same. Please let me kow if you find this driver has become available.
Tom
