Tom…
Thanks for the feedback. I received my dye sub. upgrade via ups and direct
from Fargo yesterday!!!
I only had time last night to make a couple of dye sub. prints last night. I
used IM R/t and gif 640x480x256 images because they were the only ones I had
access to at home. The results were surprisingly good.
I have hundreds of photos on PhotoCD but no CDrom on my Amiga. :^( I also
have access to and do considerable digitizing via a Nikon scanner and Mac, at
work. I tried to save some files in Amiga IFF format and JPEG format on Mac
disks and import them to the Amiga via IM R/t but with no luck – it wouldn't
recognize the files as saved by PhotoShop.
I have also had spectacular results with the therm wax printing and agree with
you the only paper to use is the extra hard/glossy paper that Fargo provides.
I tried regular photo copy paper and high quality ink jet paper with only fair
results.
Later this week I will obtain some 24 bit high res images – somehow and try
printing them. The dye sub. printing, by the way, is much slower than the
therm wax and takes a whole lot of hard disk space since it creates three
raster images on your hard disk. Somewhere between 10 and 20 minutes to print
on my A3000/25 (I didn't time it since I kept running out of hard disk space
and had to keep throwing away files until I had enough space).
Let me know if your dye sub. upgrade arrives and what you think of it compared
with results from your dos machine.
