Another problem is the ocean basin crust as it started to curve down would begin opening up huge cracks in the basin floor. The mildest curve downward would be in the western pacific.. Even if the ocean basin crust is only 5 miles thick there would be a 5 mile gap in the curve area… The ocean basin is probably more like at least 150 miles thick thats a 100 miles of gap in the downward curving area. IF the crust is rigid enough to crack in the such straight lines near the ridges where it is … (not yet completely cooled) then in the thicker denser cooler areas it would crack also. The subduction zone concept is not all that its cracked up to be. The tilt of the pacific towards the deep trenches and the intense earthquakes that occur there can be explained in a better way than subduction. All the ocean basins were formed at the same time. They are very recent in age. They slightly shift periodically due mostly to the sun and moon gravitational forces. Kamron
