My guess is that a stray cosmic ray or two could flip a few bits at random and
cause, as IBM would say, "unpredictable results". I suppose they have a way to
order the satellite to re-boot and then upload new data to it.

Uuh – no thanks. Back when I was in high school, a group of friends and I
tried a winter camping trip in the high Cascades (near Clear Lake just South
of the Santiam Pass road). Had a dickens of a time getting the tent pegs to
hold in the snow. <G> Besides, It looks like I may be spending part of New
Years Eve at work this year. 🙁
Speaking of work, I've been asked to put together my vacation schedule for
'95. I'd like to take a few days off either before or after the MM meeting in
May and go mineral exploring/collecting. Any thoughts?
