1. YES, clean out the drive case. 2. Seagates like to "stick" sometimes, the heads stick to the disk so that the motor can't spin up. You may have jostled the drive enough to shake it loose. A gentle side to to side twist is all that is usually needed in the case of "stiction". If the drive just sits there and the disk doesn't spin up due to this problem, it will get very hot and could eventually lead to damage. Can't do anything about it except replace the drive if it happens alot. Harry M.
