#Baud Bandit Modem Help!
After getting the phone company to clean up my line (yes, they actually
did it…), and after talking my job into buying a 2400 baud modem for the
MicroVAX, I gleefully went to buy a new Progressive Peripherals Baud Bandit
w/ MNP5. It's a nice modem, with good documentation. I have no trouble
with it getting to CompuServe, to local BBS's, or to a number at Encore
Corp. However, I just can't access the MicroVAX!!! I can access the MV
with other 1200 and 2400 baud modems (w/o MNP5, though), and my friends can
reach the MV with my modem from their homes, but !I! can't use MY modem
from MY house 😐 . I've tried all sorts of modem settings, including
turning off the error correction ("at/n0"). If I dial the MV at 1200 baud
it connects, but the characters are all way up in the ASCII set (as if
parity were wrong, or something). If I dial at 2400 baud the Baud Bandit
won't even get a carrier detect, even though I can hear the "squeel and
squawk" over the speaker!! Frustration.
The Pro. Peripherals folks don't have a clue; they are going to try
dialing the MicroVAX themselves, with one of their modems.
In the meantime, has anyone got an idea??? Mucho obliged.
