Perhaps I've phrased that wrong. Instead of saying I want people to learn how a computer works, I want them to learn how to get the same things (and other things) done the "manual" way instead of the "automatic". Using your car analogy, I *do* feel that people should learn how to use an manual transmission in the off chance that they are ever needed to drive a car with one. Using a slightly different analogy, and looking into the future… Eventually we'll have cars which you can program to get from point A to point B. I'd still want people using those cars to learn how to drive them in case of problems. (Like what happens if the car doesn't know where point A or B is, or what if you're not sure where point B is?) Dinking around in MS DOS or the AmigaDOS's CLI may not teach you more about how the computer works but it *should* teach you faster and possibly easier ways of getting certain things accomplished. Sure it's a bit of a challenge learning it at first, but once you have, you'll get a lot more performance out of your machine. –>Steve Bennett
