No, I agree with you that this is not the place for mail order shopping
discussion. Indeed, my idea goes along these lines.
First, I am tired of download messages (and have to ask them)
regarding prices, where to and how to buy somethiing information. I
mean, it's a pleasure to help people, but sometimes it could be easy
to direct them to a reference file in the libraries with a kind of
catalog, like the Truevision source book but about 3ds and 3ds
related products. This will save us those big threads about pricing,
product info, etc… Do you know how many times I have to say how
much I like the Wacom in a week? <g> Greg, I think on this not as way
to convert the forum on a market place but, in the contrary, make a
service to those who visit the forum, your clients or whoever wants
to stop by here to retrieve information.
This forum is a source of information of all kinds, but it's not
permanent. I mean, sometimes there are some threads with small
discussions about hardware and software, and putting them in files
with the correct addresses and references will save us to repeat the
same discussion when someone new jumps in asking for the same product
or for this or that other solution. You don't have to waste your time
reading "joe's black market prices" because 1st) this is an
exageration, 2nd)this is not my idea and 3rd)after all, downloading is
a voluntary act. This is not advertisement, this is user2user tips
and tricks to go to the correct place, with the correct service and
with the correct prices and cut the transaction cost. You are good
and big, Greg, and this will not affect you in anyway. By the
contrary, here is an example of my idea: Why don't include the PAR
specs in the libraries, along with the MAX and the Abekas along with
the past threads about those products, some prices and some phone
numbers, including the Pyros Partnership's one (and don't say me that
you don't need this… people need this to know how to go) Will this
be unfair for anyone? You say that you don't waste your time reading
commercials… this will save you and me to read and write
infomercials, and will help people to find what they want advised by
dozens expert and not so expert 🙂 opinions and experiences.
It's easy! It's clean! It's safe! <g> Really, take the example of the DEC XL
thread or the Pentium related ones. Put all them in a file, clean them up, add
some conclusions, prices, benchmarks, etc… and post it in the Hardware
library under the title: "3DS and Pentium processors: Great Computers for the
Greatest 3D".
Regarding respect… well, I have seen how half of the forum people have drop
the respect for the other half people in the forum. Seriously, althought all is
acompanied with 🙂 and <g>s, sometimes I don't see too much respect here. This
is hard to admit, but I think that all of us KNOW that _sometimes_ there is
more that innocent comments and discussions here.
BTW, this forum is not supported by dealers. We all are the forum
supporters. You are here because it's a great place to discuss 3ds
and other tech. trends and because it is a benefit for you and your
_clients_. It save support time, it save everything. Nobody of us is
here for the enjoyment of pay Compuserve bills and talk with each
other about stupid things and loose precious free time, but for the
enjoyment of getting and give, share information and experiences with
other people (user, dealers, Mr.President or the Pope). Tell me that
you are here because you are so good that they will name you Saint
Gregory. If you say me that you don't recieve any benefit from here,
you are not telling the truth, Greg.
Dealers or users, all of us get something from the forum.
