If I'm not mistaken, the largest quake in the US (perhaps NA) in the
last few hundred years, occured in MO in the early 1800's. The area
was very unpopulated then, but the geologic evedence allows
geologists to size the event. The recent LA quake was nothing
compared to that one.
Since I live in Calif. I have always heard that it was the rest of
the continent that was going to drop into the Atlantic. I bought some
property on the East slope of the Sierra's and built some Cabanna's
so I'll be ready.
