Rich, I got into hot water with that one with C'Serve. If you sign on to
C'Serve with the reccommended 8N1, the first few messages will be graphics
charactors until Ohio realizes what you're doing. I'm using IBM (for real)
and Hayes. It happens to me too. C'Serve's own software, Professional
Connection, ALWAYS signs on at 7E1 and switches to 8N1 only during binary
downloads. Automatically. C'Serve said they have to initially operate at
7E1 to allow all the "dum" terminals out there to operate. Of course,
there MIGHT be something wrong with your modem, but you're essentially
correct-the software determines the protocol, not the modem. Captain
