I think it was not later than 1820 – maybe even closer to 1800. If
another quake of that magnitude happens, there will be tremendous damage
and loss of life, I'm sure.
I once read the complete works of Mark Twain, but it's been a while. But
the Mississippi does not take kindly to attempts to tame it. It changes
its course rather often, in spite of all man's efforts, though usually by
only small amounts at a time.
