#Origin of petroleum?

There are oxygen poor places in the world (deep trenches, etc.) where organic material accumalates. You haven't dived deep enough. The theory is conditions were such that these areas once covered (actually, several times in earths history) very large areas. I suppose this could be a klug. Anyway, wouldn't some fossils be left IN the oil if a sudden catastrophe buried it? The current theory explains it because the oil organic materials have to travel through sand to form oil.
