Ewan,
I'm not familiar with Visual Reality; I've never seen their product(s).
For your landscaping needs, I would recommend Vistapro ($90-120) with the
add-on modules Makepath Flight Director ($50), and Vistamorph ($50-70). You
could create the changing seasons, but as for animating storms, you'd have to
use a 2D animation program like Autodesk Animator Pro ($550) and either paint a
frame at a time, or create a storm and do a composite. If you wanted to add
sound, I'd also get Adobe Premiere ($350).
Go to the Graphic Vendors Forum and check out some of the stuff in the
VRLI library. The is where Vistapro is supported. You will find stills and
anims that were made with Vistapro. There is also an app called Scenery
Animator. I don't know if there is a PC version. If you are on a Mac, you could
also check out a ray-tracing landscape app called KPT Bryce. I've seen some
really pretty stuff from that, but a single frame can take hours to render.
