Michael,
I almost decided to switch to Lightwave 3D when it was available for
Windows because I wanted some effects that Animation: Master doesn't offer. I
do mostly the type of stuff that you would see in Babylon 5 , Star Trek or Star
Wars. However, since it is a polygon-based modeling system, it cannot even come
close to producing the type of organics that AM does, and IMHO, I would never
recommend it to anyone as a first choice that wanted to do realistic animations
of the human body and internal organs. Even polygon systems costing thousands
of dollars can't compare to a good spline-based system. There are a few AM
users that actually create models in AM, export them as .DXF, and sell them to
users of $10,000+ animation systems, because modeling with splines is much
easier and faster than getting the same smooth results with polygons. The new
version of AM, due out by the end of March will make it the most powerful and
versatile animation package on the market for under $1000, and considerably
better than packages costing much more.
