Jon, Excellent answers! However, I'm still a little mixed up on the magnetic field reversals. Let me see if I can phrase my confusion correctly: Now, I've read that we have been able to determine these reversals by exploring the rocks in the discovered "bands" of material located on each side of the spreading oceanic ridges. So, if we believe that these reversal happen quickly, i.e., you wake up the next day and your compass needle points south instead of north, this would confuse the whole concept of App. polar wandering. Well, not necessarily if we are able to determine the age of the oceanic sample and correlate it with a surface sample. Am I on the right track here?? It's all a matter of correlating the ages of the samples against the know ocean floor spreading reversal bands? Thanks for the help!! gary
