Well, welcome aboard! As to your desire to dump VHS into your computer, it's
doable but on the expensive side. At a rough guess, you're looking at about
$10,000-$15,000 to get started–assuming you don't *already* have either a
Pentium or PowerMac w/32 megs or better of RAM and a couple gigabytes hard disk
space that you can pretty much exclusively use for desktop video (I know *I*
don't!).
Check VIDEOMAKER Magazine's monthly box on how much it'll cost you to set up a
basic VHS-quality nonlinear editing setup–that's what you want to do. It's not
a hard&fast and tends to lean towards Mac computers, but it's a good jumping
off point.
