Thanks for your reply–but don't scold me for bad behavior around the
computer. I didn't flash it off and on. It crashed in the middle of the
Electronic Arts demo that came with the computer, and the keyboard was frozen
so I couldn't do a Ctrl-A-A reset. I gave it a few seconds before turning it
back on, but didn't count them. I usually give my IBM 10 seconds, so I assume
the pause was within the 5-10 second range. As far as taking the disk out
goes, I had the choice of turning the machine off with the disk in the drive or
taking the disk out without waiting for the drive to turn off, because when the
keyboard froze the disk drive kept running.
What the computer is doing now is just not working. It doesn't do the
self-test music, and doesn't send anything to the screen. If you put disks in
the drive the light comes on as if it were reading them, then turns off again.
I took itto the dealer today, and they said they still hadn't received service
kits (this dealership was the first in Southeastern Louisiana to get Amigas in
stock) and that I would have to take it to the local fixit to get a diagnosis.
If it takes longer than a week to fix, they will swap it out for me, but they
don't have one coming in until then–unless I want the one the store owner has
at home for his girl friend to play with.
I'm not upset with them, they're friends and I do DP for them
sometimes. I'm just disappointed that I can't play with my new machine. And
wondering just how delicate it is–I take very good care of my IBM, but I've
had it open dozens of times testing hardware and nothing has happened. Once
when I was reviewing a graphics board I turned around to see my two-year-old
(who was supposed to be in bed) playing with MY graphics board. It still
works, two years later. And our C64 has had a chair dropped on it and chili
spilled in it, has been left on for twenty-four hours on several occasions
because you can pause Loderunner but not save it, and it still works. Well, it
has a new motherboard…but, anyway. I set that Amiga up following the
instructions
