I yanked an interesting note out of ENS last night (wish I had saved it)
wherein the Copyright Office has granted a copyright to Adobe Systems for
their ITC Garamond software.
Since I didn't keep a copy of the article (which appeared in a couple of
forms in Reuters and OTC), the basic thrust of the courts action was to
state that while Adobe's particular implementation, i.e. the PostScript
code which represented the Garamond family, they did not own the rights to
the underlying artwork.
Oddly enough (or maybe not), one of Adobe's silent partners in the action
was Bitstream.
