Here's a thread from the legal forum regarding the font copyright issue. I'm not sure it makes any sense to me yet… I believe that in the U.S. whatever the copyright interest that there might be in the shape of a letter, that interest is not infringed by printed text using that typeface; in other words, no copyright protection in the U.S. for typefaces. With respect to names for typefaces, one can not get a copyright on a name; trademark law protects names. I believe that numerous typeface names are trademarks. In the U.S., there is another form of protection known as a Design Patent (not a utility patent, which is the "patent" to which most people refer). There are U.S. design patents on typefaces. I do not know what is the scope of the coverage of these design patents. [More]
