The need to create one or two letters of an alphabet was a steady complaint against Fontsizer. You could create a screen font suitcase with any size you wanted (as long as you had a PS printer), but folks just wanted to create a suitcase with the character that they needed for a drop cap (or whatever). Now ATM hogs up RAM with an entire font's worth of info when you may only need a few characters. As I see it, folks have a lot of legitimate, artistic reasons to use these tools. (BTW, even w/o Meta, you can use Smart Art and a PS printer to image a letter and then drop it into Illustrator for distorting, but it's a pain.) Although a discussion on the possible misuses of software is always healthy, I've always found that, here on CompuServe, it's safer to assume that your audience will endeavor to find legitimate uses, being surrounded as we are by the authors of these great programs, and thus sensitized to the unfairness of software piracy. (In fact, I've always thought it ludicrous that CIS won't try harder to find a way that members' could send their shareware fees to authors electronically. I'd bet that the amount of shareware dollars paid would go up dramatically!) <BW>
