Modem games no-go

Hi Here's hoping that someone more familiar with modems can help me out. I'm trying to play a PC version of "688 Attack Sub" via modem with a friend of mine using my ATonce emulator. The game runs fine, albeit CGA graphics are the pits. I can't get the modem to dial out or answer through the game. My friend is using a Zoom modem and he doesn't seem to be having any problems. I've sucessfully used ProComm Plus in IBM mode so I know that the serial port configuration is O.K. I set the modem up to auto answer via AT commands and the modem will answer, but the game doesn't recognize the connection. I've had the same problem using a Shareware game called "Modem Poker". I'm hoping that it will just be a matter of changing my initialization string or something of that nature. Does anyone have any ideas. Thanks for any help you can give. George – via Whap!

George, Do you have the modem set up to only set DSR and CD when it's actually connected? (AT&C1 and AT&S1 modes) If not, the program may not know when a connect is actually received. Also my guess would be you have to use a 7 wire interface rather than a 3 wire interface if that's what you're using. Don

Don: I tried using the AT&C1 and AT&S1 commands. I unplugged the modem and replugged it before issuing the commands. Still no good. In your message, you mentioned I should be using a 7 wire interface instead of a 3 wire interface. What is involved in changing the interface. I'm not even sure what I have. Would this require a different cable, or is it not that simple. I'm using the standard RS232C cable that came with the modem. Thanks for trying. George – via Whap!

George, Ok…if you're using a standard RS232 cable…you have the full 7 wire hookup. I'm not sure what's going on then…perhaps you should contact the author/publisher of the software…see what they think. Don
