HST Modem Refresher

I almost hate to reopen this topic but can someone please brief me on the
operational differences of the USR Courior HST modems?
I seem to remember a discussion about them being optimized for one
directional file transfers. Now a customer has gone out and bought a
truckload and wonders why the software don't work (he has them configured
as Hayes 2400s).
Unfortunately, the application is very heavy full dux file transfers. If
this half dux thing is true I'ld like to know about it before I start
reprograming (he has truck load but can he loan me one you got to be
kidding).
So working without a net (or manuals as yet), can anyone tell me if my
fears are justified and if so how i can config modem to minimize the impact
of this protocol.

The different speeds only apply when you're using the lattice encoding of
the USR proprietary techniques. As 2400 baud modems, they can work just
like a Hayes modem, no difference at all. If they aren't working, they're
probably just not configured right. There is a slew of NVRAM
"soft-switches" as well as real dip-switches which configure the modem.
For details, I suggest the manual – but you CAN get them to work this way.

unfortunately, i think the customer was sold them on basis they could
go faster. Fortunately, it's been a couple days with nothing from
them about when the manuals at least could be sent so i'm begining to
thing isn't quite as hot as they originally thought.
Currently the work as dialing system but give a number of errors when
being called from a real Hayes. I figure I can correct this when the
manuals show but i'm really concern about them not getting the
performance improvement they think they'll get when the pair two of
these on a link.
