#downloading ARC.EXE
2 messages in this thread
Can anyone out there help me with one tiny little problem?
I've tried twice now to download ARC.EXE from DL4, with two different results.
First, the two numbers after the file name in the DL directory do not correlate
in any way with what I see when I LIST the results of an attempted download.
Not even close!
Attempt 1 got 45 blocks transferred, then bounced out of transfer (Online!
bounced out, that is) and the screen started filling up with garbage. Resulting
file size: approx. 22K.
Attempt 2 got 53 blocks transferred, then bounced again. Resulting size:
approx. 25K.
Both attempts produce "not an object module", even though the blurb says the
file does -> NOT <- have to be chopped.
Me no understand, kimosabe.
By the way, I was using CIS-B both times.

Don,
Since you got bounced out…you don't have a complete file. B-Protocol
is wonderful when it is working, but a pain when you get data errors, try it
via Xmodem CRC.
The 2 numbers you see are storage sizes here on CIS (the first number)
in Packed Intel Hex (that's the way it's stored) and the number in parenthesis
is the approxitmate binary size..and is always high by about 5 to 10%.
Correct file size as downloaded is 63104 bytes long for ARC. That is
493 Xmodem blocks or 124 B Protocol blocks. It does NOT have to be chopped
after downloading, but obviously you need the whole file to run it.
