#fatter agnus

we've installed a 1 meg fatter agnus into a rev 5 a500. The result is that we
are getting incomplete graphics on the workbench and when a more graphic file
is selected the system crashes totally. there is noticable flicker on acessed
the lines are broken on the frame and when prefs are selected it crashes can
anyone tells us what we did wrong: is a trace not fully cut,or is the solder
not connecting to the pads. there is a 512k ram expansion in the trap door, we
cut the trace as instructed. thanks …anthony
Anthony,
The symptoms you describe could be caused by a number of things. I did
the same mod on my Rev 5 A500, and never had a problem. You could have
anything from:
1. Bad Agnus
2. Poorly seated Agnus
3. Wrong trace cut
4. Right trace cut incompletely
5. Jumper soldered incorrectly.
The best thing to do would be to buy or borrow a multimeter and check the
continuity of the trace cut and jumper. Verify that the Agnus is seated
properly and fully. Did you bend any pins?
Unfortunately, only a person actually looking at the board can tell what's
wrong at this point. You'll need to do some verification that the mod was
done correctly. Also, try removing the extra 512K in the belly slot; the
system should recognize that it only has 512K chip and work correctly
anyway.

You probably have a bab 1MB agnus… the % of return on these chips is
high these days…
