Hi Carl,
thanks for your kisses.
My name is Ingo Neumann, you see it's not an american name,
I am a german 3DS/AniPro user, really.
I think you can find out the name of a given userid in the CIS members
directory, it's included in the basic sevices of CIS, but don't ask me the GO
… keyword (I always step trough the german CIM menus to the members
directory).
Create a modell in 3DS and place two cameras like your eyes physical
exactly!! (FOV:45-50) to the modell. Create a black->red and a black->green
(each 64 colors) gradient color palette in AniPro and save both. Then render
the left camera with the black->green CUSTOM-palette and the right with the
other palette. After this, you must overlay the two images(flics). You can do
that in AniPro or any other paint programm (see message nr. #37171 and #37024 /
3D STUDIO). I used AniPro by pasting with a raster mask the two flics together.
Look also at 3D-PEN.GIF in WHAT'S NEW.

Gruess Gott, Ingo!
>> thanks for your kisses. <<
Bitte schoen! Im CIS alles ist moeglich, nicht wahr?! <g>
Ingo, I understand what you have suggested about the two cameras and Custom
palettes. But I don't understand what you mean about overlaying the two flicks
in AAPro. Doesn't one have to be transparent? How is that done? [I suspect
Video Post can do this–I guess I'll have to review that tutorial. I was
getting pretty weary when I got to the section on Video Post and don't remember
much about it!]
Nor do I understand pasting the two flicks together with a "raster mask." I do
have Animator Pro, but I don't see how the Mask feature applies here.
Danke schoen, Carl
>> …it's not an american name… <<
Mine _shouldn't_ have been! I was named after my mother's father who, early in
this century, apparently wanted a more American name than "Karl Reinhardt," and
so began to spell his name "Carl." My mother never discovered this until after
he died at 92–a little late to correct the spelling of _my_ name!
Hi Carl,
o.k. I will try to explain you the secret of bringing the two flics together in
one flic.
In AniPro
1.)
– use DRAW and OPAQUE and choose a light color
– draw in ZOOM-mode some pixels like this: * *
* *
– press on you TAB-Key or choose CEL/CLIP
– use FILL and TILE to fill the rest of the image with the current cel
– make a right-mouse-click on MASK in the main menu.
– select (mask)CLIP and save the mask for later stereo projects
– in the main menu left-mouse-click on MASK, so MASK is highlighted.
2.)
– make a color palette with a black->red and a black->green gradient
(both in one palette !!) and save the palette.
– load the green flic, be sure that in the palette menu FIT is on.
– click on T for enabeling the timeing and load the saved palette
– when asked for "Fit Screen" answer with YES
3.)
– load the red flic as _(anim)CEL_
– be sure that the T button is on.
– and now comes the great moment where AniPro is much faster then
videopost, use CEL/PASTE and click on RENDER. Now the two stereo
flics will be overlayed. One pixel for red the next pixel for green
and so on …. you see the flics must not be transparent, thats's what I
mean with "raster", sorry it's a german word, I thought it's an
english too.
I think this method is much better for red/green glasses because the
brightness/luminance of the images will not lost as it is when you make your
flics transparent.
When you have succes with stereo projects please e-mail me or upload some
examples. Take also a look at the GRAPHDEV forum section VR/ANIMATION for other
stereo things.
much luck Ingo
PS: I uploaded two red/green stereoimages called: 3DSTIL.GIF and
3DCHIP.GIF in WHATS'NEW !
Ingo:
Congratulations to your stereo animation… I really like it!
frueher viel stereo fotografiert.
Die Meinung eines Fachmannes zu meinem pen-3D.gif wuerde mich schon noch
interessieren…
Gruesse aus Zuerich………………….. Alexander.
Alex(ander),
you are right, color adding is the best way for still images, but I
have found no way to add two flics with color adding in AniPro, so
I used my "raster" way one pixel for red the next for green and so on …. It's
automaticly and very fast. Look for a message I send to Carl Finch (titel
3DSTER.EXE) where I described my "raster"way in AniPro and for new 3DStereo
uploads from me. I am suprised that you don't have AniPro, without AniPro, 3DS
make not so much fun. Buy it, it's one of the most powerfull painting/animation
programs for the PC I ever seen.
To the YOSTIE'S: When will you make the true color version of AniPro ??
Ingo
PS: I will waiting for your new stereo uploads.
Ingo – Rumor has it that Animator is so 8-bit at the core, so inflexibly locked
into 8-bit, that to go 24-bit would require a total re-write and that ADesk
maybe/probably/possibly doesn't want to put the money and time into such a
monumental project. Of course, all of us out here *would pay* (probably thru
the nose and with complaints) for such a wonderful upgrade. We want to be able
to do to Targa files what we now do to GIFs, that's all. No one thinks we'll be
able to play back 24-bit 640×480 .FLCs on a PC anytime soon, but to be able to
create 24-bit animation maps would be very swell, indeed! While they're at it
(which they probably won't be) they could make the interface more industry
standard, too. I think they could sell it enough to make money on it, if they
really made the effort to turn it into a PRO tool.
Off my soapbox, now. (Meaning: I'll stop my long discourse on this topic now.)
David,
I am in total agreement with you and your rumours are the same rumours I heard.
I love animator Pro except for it's ABSOLUTE REFUSAL TO DO 24-BIT,
argh!!!!!!!!!! Arghhhhhhh! (Feel better now). This is a very powerful source of
frustration for me, lately, and I feel Autodesk is in danger of falling behind
in the race for a good 2d animation package. Jeez, even Mathematica has come up
with a poxy 16-bit flic format ahead of Adesk – what's the world coming too?!!
I have the feeling that Autodesk may need to buy into some existing 24-bit 2D
animation package and mold that to their specs and make it the new Animator
Pro. Pssst! I heard that RIO is far sale. Maybe that might be a good buy and
could become the new Animator Pro 24-bit. Whadya say, Adesk?
Martin "Eagerly awaiting any and all rumours" Foster
Hi there!
Well, I'm back after a long period out of here (unfortunately, when the
business are growing up, free time goes down 🙂 mmh…so here comes again the
old 24-bit question. Add some arggghhhs! to the list. I've also heard from
Techex that AT&T is going to abandon all their graphics soft products. Speaking
of rumors, AutoCAD for Windows Beta is coming right on the way to the mag's
main computer HD. Also PhotoShop 2.5 (last beta) for Windows is running VERY
well in my computer: it's real HOT! I love it! As Pournelle says: Recommended!
Much better than PhotoStyler (although I'm still using the old Pstyler).
Regarding AA "RealPro" <g>, hope that Yost group are preparing some kind of
Animator/Painter/HiRes mix for the 2.0 version.
Saludos, Ana
ps. How are you, Martin? What about the Jung project? Hope that you finally got
it. Ah, y saludos a tu mujer.
My question is: IS there a 2.0 version in the works? What can they do with it,
other than get away from the 8-bit core, that will improve it enuff to warrant
upgrading?
David,
Are you talking about Animator Pro? If so, I don't know for sure if there's a
2.0 version in the works. Anyway, 24/32bits support is enough for me to justify
the upgrade payment or just spend another $1000 (aprox. spanish price) to get
AniPro 2.0 (or what I call Animator >Real<Pro 🙂
The Yost Group have a looooooong Apro wishlist to work with. However, I don't
think that there's a list of new features list in AniPro 2.0. Well, you know
how Autodesk work. Comparing with them, the secret around the development of
the Atomic Bomb in WW2 is a kindergarden play <g>
Ana
Martin – I have wondered about this and some other issues regarding ADesk's
direction with all this animation stuff. If they can't make AAP 24-bit (and
they *should* – it would only strengthen their market share in a fledgling, but
growing market) then they should definitely buy somebody else's program and use
that. Or create a totally new 2DStudio and forget AAP (except for a generous
upgrade path for those of us who own it <g>). I feel, tho', like they will be
relating to this like they have the driver issue. I mean, really, ADesk ought
to license Vibrant drivers and bundle them with 3DS and AAP. Then you and I
would download a LOT fewer messages from people wondering why their display is
only using the top 1/4 of the screen and is overlapping their images in that
portion, and the like.
To continue on the general trend, my experience with Playmation over this
weekend shows it to have many of the features of 3D Studio, though is less
precise/professional/production in orientation, but is so user friendly, I'm
actually better at drawing in 3d in 3D Studio as a result of drawing in 3D in
Playmation. (By the way, exporting DXFs to 3DS works *perfectly*! The only
oddity is that FRONT in Playmation is TOP in 3DS.) Over the course of the next
couple of years, some of these 'upstart' companies could easily pass ADesk in a
price/performance way, causing a loss of market share/control. UNLESS more
listening to users is done. This is directed at the Autodesk people, rather
than the Yost group, generally. I think Gary is quite open to *most* kinds of
user feedback. Interface issues are semi-forbidden in Studio and, probably due
to the source of those previously mentioned rumors, off-limits regarding AAP. I
heard a report that, at a Chicago conference one of the ADesk management
persons asked how they could improve AAP and got a spontaneous "Change the
interface" from a BIG handful of the attendees. The response from him, I'm
told, was something like, "No, really. How can we improve it?" He would not
acknowledge the feedback. Well, I'm done complaining/lobbying, now. We can go
back to work….
DT
David,
you make some very good points and I think that Adesk is taking notice and is
aware of what users want in many cases. Upgrades, wherever feasible, seem to
include a major portion of what users request. I'm sure Adesk is aware of the
criticism of the Anipro interface since that is probably one of the big
complaints, however, my biggest problem with the prog is the lack of 24-bit and
the interface issue is minor compared to that, as far as I'm concerned.
I actually agree. I can deal with the interface. I DO deal with the interface.
It does not prevent me from doing what I want. It could be better, tho', if it
more closely adhered to what are becoming industry standards in drawing program
interfaces. The real issue, of course, is the 24-bit one. These notes make
every issue discussed seem more important, by far, than they would in person in
a 15 second dialog. This topic is included. Back to work now….. Nice
chatting.
DT
David,
well I hope somebody's taking notice – hey guys! wake up and smell the
24/32-bit code! <g>
Sorry Ingo, but we're completely verbotten from discussing any future
development efforts.

Ich versteh, ich versteh!! Und vielen dank!!
>> …"raster", sorry it's a german word, I thought it's an
english too. <<
Well, it IS an English word, too, but not one that I REALLY understood!
Many thanks for your most helpful and detailed instructions. Your clever
technique is certainly fast, and the results are just wonderful! I have always
been fascinated with stereo–the first camera I bought as an adult was a 3D
stereo, and I took hundreds of slides and even printed and mounted a few stereo
pairs for one of the old fashioned stereoscopes. It is delightful to me to be
able to do this on my computer now!
I'm about to leave on a week's vacation, but when I return I will probably
spend all my time converting all my flics and then ruin my eyes, squinting
through those red-blue glasses! <G>
